Redland has introduced its new Westminster Slate to the large format interlocking clay tiles market.
The Westminster Slate has been designed to offer the look and quality of traditional clay tiles, whilst providing a cost-effective roofing solution. Because of its large size and interlocking design, a minimal 10 tiles are needed per square metre, where 60 traditional clay plain tiles would usually be required.
The Westminster benefits from a tapered leading edge, which gives it a slim appearance. Its low profile is enhanced with a custom-engineered head, raised nail holes, and a discreet cut-back interlock; these features ensure that the slate is able to achieve pitches as low as 17.50.
To ensure that the tiles can be laid on a variety of roof configurations, Redland offers a range of compatible accessories and components. Hips and ridges can be specified in Half-Round and Universal Angle, and in permutations to allow either a colour-matched roof or the contrast typically favoured on slate roofs.
There are two valley options available: Redland’s Dry Valley or 125 GRP Valley. Meanwhile, ventilation is afforded by the 8.8k ThruVent Tile.
The Westminster Slate has survived wind-uplift, freeze-thaw, and strength tests, demonstrating its weathertightness, in addition to resisting high wind and driving rain in Redland’s wind tunnel. The tiles meet the requirements of BS 5534: 2014 Code of practice for Slating and Tiling, when installed in accordance with the company’s fixing recommendations.
Overall, the slate measures 480mm x 326mm, with a cover width of 280mm and headlap range between 110mm and 140mm. It is available in three classic colours: Old College Red, City Black, and Cardinal Red.
