Megaman provides lighting solution for Symi art gallery

  • 25 Apr 2017

Megaman provided various high performance energy efficient lights and fixtures to illuminate art pieces and create a natural and comfortable level of light in an art gallery in Greece.

The Lobster, Oyster, Sushi bistro bar and art gallery is situated on the harbour of Symi Island, Greece. The gallery required a lighting solution that could complement the modern yet rustic building, highlight the artwork and provide natural lighting.

The MEGAMAN TOBY track fixture was specified to light the artwork without casting shadows or a reflective glare. The fixture provides the flexibility that a gallery with changing installations would need with an adjustable stirrup to offer a 340 rotation and 170 tilt. In addition, it features a three-circuit track adapter as standard and is easy to install in a variety of situations.

MEGAMAN AR111 15W CU10 LED reflectors and 3W PAR16 GU10 LED bulbs in 2800K were installed in the track fixtures. MEGAMAN GU10 LED reflectors operate on mains voltage with a dimmable version that holds its colour temperature, unlike the halogen equivalent.

In situations where a warm halogen effect is wanted, the LEDs are available in 2800K warm or the traditional LED 400K cool white colour temperature. A precise beam that is often required by art installations and 950 lumens, the equivalent of a 75W halogen equivalent, are provided by the AR11 reflector.

MEGAMAN TOBY PAR16 GU10 LED fixtures can be used where smaller products are required with a softer light. MEGAMAN GU10 LED last over 12 times longer than the halogen equivalent providing an annual saving of up to 80% and can easily be retrofitted in a range of applications.

The GU10 LEDs produce five times less heat output than the halogen equivalent and the TOBY track fixtures provide an open back design that allows further heat dissipation than regular fixtures, according to Fred Bass, Managing Director at Megman. Therefore TOBY track fixtures are suitable for art galleries such as this as they will help to reduce heat emitted which could fade pieces of art.
