Altius VA has released a webinar recording with five steps to ensure effective contractor and subcontractor management and compliance.
Gary Plant, Managing Director of Altius VA explains in the seminar how organisations can reduce costs, boost efficiency and avoid risk when working with contractors and their sub contractors.
Gary explains that you should have requirements on health and safety in place and the do’s and don’ts of the contract should be established and no assumptions made.
He also states that you should ensure that your contractors are capable of doing the job and won’t expose you to risk. They should provide you with clear evidence of having completed risk assessments, having safety management systems etc.
The webinar also discusses the importance of clearly communicating your requirements. No assumptions should be made when dealing with contractors and sub-contractors, particularly around their skills and attitudes to health and safety. It is also worth highlighting and communicating the things you don’t want them to do.
You should also monitor compliance to measure whether the job is going well. If something is going wrong, it’s usually too late to do anything about the situation, but it could be a useful learning point for next time. KPIs, audits, site inspections and a feedback process may all have a role to play.
Finally, according to Gary you should keep records of contractors and sub-contractors and make sure you have up-to-date evidence of their capabilities. Don’t waste time doing what a computer can do, automate your supplier management processes. This will make appointing new contractors and sub-contractors easy and ensure that their performance is tracked.
