Protan single ply membranes have been used on the three-storey Doncaster National College for High Speed Rail.
Over 1000 apprentices will learn how to build world-leading rail at the college. Main contractor Willmott Dixon is using Protan single ply membranes to ensure both the inverted and warm metal roofs remain weatherproofed for up to 30 years.
Peter Gleave of Willmott Dixon, “Protan was the preferred membrane on the project. To us it was of added benefit that we could single-source the top single ply, upper and lower protection layers, vapour control and anti-slip options, plus the accessories such as rainwater outlets, and utilise Protan’s technical support on a complex structure.”
For the inverted roof, layers of Protan’s ballast roof system have been built up on the concrete decking. Protan F300M polypropylene fleece was loose laid as upper and lower protection layers, then covered with 1.5mm thick Portan G membrane with anti-slip surface, insulation, and Protan F2b polypropylene fleece as the filter layer under 50mm gravel.
The warm metal roof was constructed by mechanically-fixing Protan SE1.6mm standard overlap membrane with textured anti-slip surface over the insulation, Protan PE vapour control layer and profiled galvanised steel deck. Protan Progrip walkway provides additional surface protection for any roof maintenance.
Protan G membrane, the core of the ballasted roof system, is a glass fibre reinforced, microbe durable PVC membrane for gravel ballasted roofs, inverted roofs, and green roofs. Protan G membrane can withstand high and low temperatures and attack by micro-organisms. Loose-laid, it provides a fast and safe means of creating an FLL compliant roof.
Protan SE membrane is certified to deliver, and potentially surpass, the energy efficiency requirements laid down in Approved Document L, and, under the Green Guide achieve an A+ rating.
