A system developed by UZIN has been used to install a variety of floor coverings at Silverstone University Technical College.
Situated in the heart of the world’s most famous motor racing circuit, the multi-million pound Silverstone University Technical College specialises in teaching High Performance Engineering and Technical Events Management.
During construction, the college required several types of floor coverings within a tight timescale for it to be opened as planned. Parts of the ground floor also required remedial work which had the potential to cause delays.
An UZIN system was specified by CD Flooring Installations to streamline the flooring work and minimise risks.
The UZIN RR 203 crack bridge mesh and UZIN NC 888 feather repair were used to fix the cracks encountered in parts of the ground floor substrate.
The ground floor was then prepared using UZIN PE 360 primer and UZIN NC 160 smoothing compound, whilst all areas on the first and second first used UZIN PE 630 and UZIN NC 175 fibre-reinforced smoothing compound for subfloor preparation.
Different UZIN adhesives were used to install a variety of floor coverings. UZIN KE 2428 multi-purpose adhesive was used to install 2000m2 of safety flooring across the ground, first and second floors.
An additional 2400m2 of carpet tiles were installed using UZIN U2100 slip-resistant tackifier, which enables the carpet tiles to be removed easily. 1200m2 of Arturo EP3600 resin floor paint was also used to decorate all the workshops adjacent to the old pit on the main track.
Silverstone UTC opened in September 2013 and was named ‘Project of the Year for the East Midlands’ by The Chartered Institute of Building.
