A damp proof membrane developed by UZIN has been supplied to the Gaia Spa & Gym at Boringdon Hall Hotel to treat issues caused by a damp anhydrite screen.
The Grade-I listed medieval hotel, situated near Plymouth, features luxury fitness and wellbeing facilities which encompass natural materials including wood, stone and glass. As part of the spa’s construction, 900 square metres of new flooring needed to be installed throughout.
Anhydrite screed was used for the installation, resulting in moisture levels over 75 per cent relative humidity (RH).
Whilst anhydrite screeds have become increasingly popular within the industry, there is still little in the way of adequate protection against moisture. Waiting for damp anhydrite screeds to dry can be time-consuming, therefore the client required a solution that would enable works to continue.
The flooring contractor, Russells Flooring Ltd, specified a bespoke system that would allow the project to be completed much quicker, with fewer delays.
Two coats of UZIN PE 425 primer were initially applied to the anhydrite screed, followed by two coats of UZIN PE 404 resin DPM.
Before UZIN NC 150 smoothing compound was applied, a coat of UZIN PE 280 rapid drying primer used to create a barrier between the calcium sulphate screed and the cementitious smoothing compound.
Finally, 700m2 of Heuga Podium XXL LVT flooring, 50m2 of Altro Walkway, 40m2 Tarkett Vinyl and 100m2 of Burmatex Carpet tiles were installed using UZIN KE 2000 S pressure sensitive adhesive.
The floor coverings received a positive response from the client and the builders, whist complementing the amenities at Gaia Spa to create a relaxing and peaceful environment for visitors.
