Novus Property Solutions has launched its new Skills 4 Life initiative, created to equip people with skills they need to succeed.
The initiative was launched with a skills session hosted at The Macari Centre, a homeless shelter founded by football legend Lou Macari. Various skilled operatives from Novus were on hand to teach those taking part.
Lou Macari, founder of the centre, commented: “I founded this centre to help people who the mainstream system left behind, and I am very grateful for Novus’ help in teaching them valuable skills and helping us to provide better living conditions here at the centre too.”
Novus has launched Skills 4 Life with the aim of transforming thousands of lives through supporting skills training and employment opportunities.
Novus will offer training workshops like the one at the Macari Centre, as well as work placements, training for individuals looking to gain additional skills, as well as offering people the opportunity to join Novus’ apprenticeship scheme.
Novus will also run a bi-monthly social media giveaway where community projects or charities focused on building skills can apply to win £200 in funding for their project. Later in the year, Novus will return to the Macari Centre to undertake a refurbishment programme.
Chris Walford, director at Novus, said: “Our Changing Lives initiative helped over 20,000 people in the past two years, which is a remarkable achievement and the initiative will continue to change lives throughout 2017 and beyond.
“However, we know from out work with communities that upskilling people can have an enormous impact on their lives, giving them a route into a career in construction at a time when the industry urgently requires skilled people.”
