Following an increase in the number of window and door system companies joining the GGF, the Federation has established a new ‘Systems House Group’.
A preliminary meeting took place in January, where the system house companies met to determine the scope of the new Group.
It was decided that the Group will have input into the GGF’s overall strategy, assessing the potential impact of any regulatory changes. Using political lobbying campaigns, it will aim to influence the shape of such changes to ensure that they are not detrimental to any specific framing materials.
It will work with the GGF’s partners and develop solutions to current or potential issues that exclude certain companies, such as small or micro fabricators who cannot justify third party certification to supply SBD-compliant works.
Finally, the Group will work on confronting the issues caused by restrictive planning conditions that can exclude the use of some framing materials. It will act as a representative for Systems Companies, ensuring their individual voices are heard in Industry Standards setting forums.
Systems House Group
The Group met in Birmingham for its first official meeting, which took place at the start of May. GGF Members companies, such as ALUK, Synseal, REHAU and Profine UK, were represented.
The meeting was chaired by REHAU’s Marketing and Technical Director for Window Solutions, Gareth Jones (pictured above), who sees the Systems House Group as an ‘essential group for the Federation and the industry.’
He was elected as Chairman by the Group’s Members; the position comes with a seat on the GGF Board.
An array of concerns were discussed, such as changes to Building Regulations, reducing the duplication of certification on some projects, and making it easier for companies to utilise Building Information Modelling (BIM).
