  • 5 Jul 2017

Encasement’s Polyma GRP column casings have been specified to conceal external structural steelwork at Hull’s Centre for Digital Innovation (C4DI).

Designed by architects Enjoy Design, the C4DI building forms the centrepiece of Hull’s multi-million pound @TheDock development. The facility, which is owned by Wykeland Group, comprises a digital tech hub and approximately 70,000 square feet of office space. An external public performance space is also featured in the former dry dock.

The building is clad in bronze, PPC-coated aluminium. Below, its structural steel supports have been covered by Polyma glass-reinforced column casings, manufactured and supplied by Encasement.

The column casings have been produced to the building’s exact specifications, using hand laid GRP moulding techniques. Each casing is 450mm in diameter, with height ranging from 3,600mm to 4,000mm depending on the building’s design parameters. They have been finished in gloss RAL 7004 Signal Grey.

Developed to resist the adverse effects of external elements, the casings are suitable for use nearby sea water. As the C4DI is based at Hull’s dock area, the Polyma casings will be able to withstand the weathering and corrosion that buildings in the area are subject to.
