Strathisla Roofing chose Protan SE1.6mm single ply PVC membrane to re-roof The Broch in Perth.
New thermal insulation and a Protan vapour control layer was also supplied to enable the building to continue being the heart of the development for decades to come.
The six storey apartment block containing 20 flats, includes a duplex penthouse in a circular structure that replicates the lines of Scotland’s traditional fortified farms dating back 2500 years.
Strathisla Roofing managing director Kevin Easson explained, “The main roof is predominantly semi-circular, with a rectangular insert. We also had to address the usual residential roof penetrations, roof safety system, and detail around the penthouse rooflight.
“The building itself is less than a decade old, so the roof shouldn’t have been failing already. Protan is proven to last over 30 years, even in the harsh Scandinavian climate where it was developed, so should withstand the Scottish highlands’ weather!”
Protan SE, available in 1.2mm, 1.6mm and 1.8mm, is certified to ≤ -30°. The membrane is durable in excess of 30 years, with air leakage controlled/minimised in line with latest Building Regulations due to hot-air welded at joints and mechanically fixed to the roof.
The PVC membrane is, under the Green Guide, accredited with achieving a A+ rating and is fully BBA certified.
Protan can provide a full support service, from a RIBA-approved CPD programme in single ply membranes, NBS specification and in-house CAD design through to technical advice from Protan UK’s Warrington office and training facility.
