Tinytag protects medieval artefacts

  • 10 Aug 2017

Tinytag data loggers from Gemini Data Loggers are being used to help preserve artefacts from the medieval find in an environmentally controlled space.

The data loggers provide information about conditions in buildings, helping to provide data to allow steps to be taken to ensure the comfort and wellbeing of occupants, and to help save energy.

Therefore, the Tinytag temperature and relative humidity loggers are suitable for the long-term preventive conservation of the historic Newport Medieval Ship.

Discovered 15 years ago and preserved in the bank of the River Usk in Newport, Wales, the ship is the most complete surviving example of a ship from the 15th century and was disassembled and raised, along with over 1000 small finds.

Artefacts from the ship require an environmentally controlled space in order to be preserved. Special storage rooms within a warehouse have been built and six Tinytag Ultra 2 TGU 4500 data loggers monitor temperature and relative humidity.

The data from the loggers is then used to track changes and dehumidifiers and heating/AC equipment is then adjusted according to the readings taken by Tinytags.

Tinytag Ultra 2 TGU 4500 data loggers are designed specifically for accurate indoor temp/RH monitoring. With a lightweight, splash-proof design, and a mounting point, they can be located securely and conveniently as required.
