Flowcrete UK has launched its new polished concrete system, the Monodec Grande Lux
The Monodec Grande Lux unites specialist grinding and polishing techniques with high performance sealers, densifiers, coatings and dyes. It can transform an existing concrete slab into an aesthetically-appealing surface that is easy to clean and maintain.
This new, polished concrete flooring system is the latest addition to Flowcrete’s portfolio of resin flooring solutions. The company has recently produced a white paper comparing these two flooring options for commercial environments.
Flowcrete also offers a CPD seminar that covers the specification of polished concrete, comparing it to similar materials and offering practical guidance and information.
To create a Monodec Grande Lux floor, the surface laitance of an existing slab is removed to expose the natural aggregates in the concrete mix; this is achieved by using diamond grinding techniques.
The exposed slab is treated to strengthen the concrete, with coloured stains and patterned visual effects available as finishes. After this treatment, the floor is polished down to a flat, glossy surface for easy cleaning and maintenance. The polish is light-reflective and hard wearing, resistant to the effects of heavy footfall and rubber-wheeled traffic.
The process involves several steps of grinding and polishing to reveal the natural beauty of the cement matrix and its aggregates. Because existing concrete is treated, each Monodec Grande Lux floor is unique; the end result depends on the specific make up of the existing slab.
