Augmented Worker System to be revealed at Digital Construction Week

Soluis’ Augmented Worker technology is set to make its debut at Digital Construction Week, where the industry benefits of wearable AR systems will be explored.

A group of companies led by Soluis Group have been working to develop wearable virtual and augmented reality (AR) technology for use on construction sites.

The ‘Augmented Worker’ project has recently secured £1 million in funding from the Government’s Innovate UK programme. This investment will help the consortium to introduce its technology to the UK building industry.

Developing AR for construction

Soluis’ In-Site AR asset management tool was put to use on Crossrail construction sites, to demonstrate how AR technology could be applied to the construction industry.

Following this proof of concept project, the company committed to developing the technology further. It is now working with a consortium of businesses – including Pinnacle Business Solutions, Carbon Dynamic, the AMRC and the AFRC – to develop its Augmented Worker System (AWE).

Augmented Worker System (AWE)

AWE is a wearable system, designed to promote onsite safety, efficiency and sustainability, whilst providing real-time visualisation. Working through five key areas – co-design, digital job guidance, progress monitoring, safety guidance and asset management – the technology will reduce the need for paper-based or handheld mobile devices onsite.

Such technology will allow construction professionals to place digital information, such as BIM, in the real world. AWE can offer real-time access to individualised data, analytics and instructions during construction and operational stages.

The technology aims for a 25% reduction in cost and waste, and an increased productivity of 30% for all projects. 

AR at Digital Construction Week

Following its official launch on 1st September, the Augmented Worker project will be presented at Digital Construction Week, which is scheduled to take place at London’s ExCeL from 18th–19th October. 

The show will features a live demonstration of the AWE by Sublime and AMRC.
