The continuing upsurge in use of zinc as a roofing and façade material has led market leader VMZINC to introduce a ‘Basic Competency’ training scheme.
Organised in conjunction with the CITB, Roofing Industry Alliance and FTMRC, the intensive single-day module is formally linked to Level 2 NVQ qualification and equates to the first stage of achieving formal installer accreditation.
Among elements covered are roof design and construction, fitting, product information and finishes, maintenance and repair, tools and ancillaries and soldering.
Once a ‘Pass’ grade has been achieved an individual becomes eligible for a Red ‘Experienced Worker’ CSCS card, the only condition of which is that a ‘Working at height’ HSE test has been passed within the previous two years.
The holder then has three years to register with a training provider in order to work towards Level 2 NVQ and eligibility for the blue ‘Skilled Worker’ card.
In addition to being held at VMZINC’s Hertford office courses ourses have already taken place in Glasgow, Bristol, Kent, Exeter and Manchester, as well as at numerous company premises where demand was sufficiently large.
