Ice Arena Wales with Marlon Clickfix 1040

Clickfix glazing panels installed at Ice Arena Wales

Cardiff’s new Ice Arena Wales has benefited from the installation of Marlon Clickfix 1040 polycarbonate glazing panels, supplied by Brett Martin in a striking array of geometric shapes.

Accommodating 3,000 seats, Ice Arena Wales is a dual-pad arena which houses two rinks: the first, developed for hockey and figure skating, has been built to Olympic standard, while the second is smaller, making it suitable for club, leisure and training events.

The 6,000 square metre arena forms part of the multi-million pound Cardiff International Sports Village (ISV). It was designed by Scott Brownrigg, on behalf of developers Greenbank Partnerships. Massey Cladding Solutions was contracted to carry out the installation of the walls and roof.

With aesthetics, light and U-values cited as prime design considerations, Massey Cladding Solutions sought a daylighting solution that would work with the monolithic  building’s angular metal cladding profile.

Over 450 square metres of Brett Martin’s Marlon Clickfix RL was specified as a solution. The panels were cut-to-fit in different geometric shapes, and installed in the walls on the South West elevation to diffuse natural daylight into the building.

Marlon Clickfix 1040

The Marlon Clickfix 1040 system is a structured polycarbonate glazing panel of 40mm, with 10 insulating walls to optimise U-values.

It is compatible with two thermally broken aluminium glazing bar solutions: the Marlon Clickfix RL, which has been used at Ice Arena Wales, has been designed for use in low pitch rooflights and canopies, whilst the Marlon Clickfix VF is better suited to vertical installations.

The system boasts integral interlocking connections that click into place; this enables the creation of vast glazed areas of unlimited size and shape.

In addition to its offering of structural strength and impact resistance, the Marlon Clickfix 1040 provides natural light diffusion, UV protection and enhanced thermal insulation.
