REHAU has received SmartestEnergy’s annual ‘Renewable Electricity Commitment’ certificate, reflecting its dedication to improving its green and sustainability credentials.
Authorised by the Carbon Trust, the award certifies that REHAU’s Blaenau-based factory, Runcorn warehouse, and offices in Ross-on-Wye and Manchester will be running off completely renewable electricity until March 2021.
It is subject to annual review to ensure that all certified companies continue to seek their supply from recognised providers.
REHAU is using renewable energy that is Carbon Trust-certified for compliance with Greenhouse Gas Protocol Scope 2 guidance. This means that the firm can report zero carbon emissions for purchased electricity.
‘As a global company, we have a responsibility to operate in a sustainable and environmentally-friendly manner,’ comments Martin Hitchin, REHAU’s Chief Executive. ‘REHAU is committed to protecting the environment and using natural resources responsibly; all of our products are specifically designed to reduce carbon emissions.’
The company has also implemented a code of conduct for its suppliers, to ensure that internationally accepted standards are met within the supply chain. REHAU will only select suppliers that demonstrate commitment to running their business sustainably, and appreciate the importance of corporate responsibility.
Despite its impressive sustainability credentials, the company is ambitious and seeks further improvement, with clear objectives set for 2020. These include: reducing primary energy company by 20%; reducing carbon emissions by 25%; and reducing water consumption by a total of 40%.
