Birmingham bank on Aggregate for quality concrete

  • 19 Oct 2017

The new HSBC UK banking headquarters in Birmingham has had more than 20,000m3 of ready mix concrete supplied by Aggregate Industries.

The contract to supply concrete for the 10-story development at 2 Arena Central was given to Aggregate by MPB structures.

To meet requirements set by MPB,  two of Aggregate Industries’ Birmingham plants had to work together to send deliveries to site every other day, equating to approximately 3,000 lorry loads of ready mix concrete delivered to the City centre in a little over 18 months.

Architects and contractors can be reassured that it’s concrete is produced to the highest standards and does not contain ingredients that could affect the durability of the concrete, as Aggregate Industries’ standard ready mix concrete is EN 206 and BS 8500 compliant.

Aggregate Industries also supplied quantities of its Artevia concrete; the beauty of this product being  it is possible to create different design textures and colours, to create a contrast with other materials or surroundings.

On top of this, it is low maintenance, and naturally slip and skid resistant.

Furthermore, MPB took advantage of Aggregate Industries’ Strike Now technical service, in order to help keep the construction programme on track,.

Clients using the Strike Now service are able to effectively monitor striking time to help meet their timescales for delivery by using a digital remote sensing system, which can measure strength gain in-situ.

A representative from Aggregate Industries commented:  “2 Arena Central will be a landmark building for Birmingham and it presented a huge requirement for ready mix concrete.

“With a strong local network already in place, we were able to respond to this enormous demand by using resources close to Birmingham to ensure speedy and efficient deliveries to site to keep the concrete element of the project on schedule.”
