Hitting the greens for Icopal biggest golf day

  • 16 Nov 2017

Icopal staff, along with industry professionals, visited Woburn Golf Club for the manufacturer’s biggest yearly golf day yet, raising more than £700 to help support The Christie Hospital in Manchester in the process.

The event, which took place in September, also featured the chance to win a BMW Convertible at the Milton Keynes-based golf club.

With the success of the 2016 event, waterproofing technology specialists Icopal welcomed over 90 guests this year, who teed off on two of Woburn’s most challenging courses.

To win the star prize, the BMW 4 Series M Convertible, worth £42,000, those taking part had to bag a hole in one on either the Duke’s 9th hole or Marquess’ 17th to win the car.

Although there was some quality golf on show, the vaunted hole in one proved too much for the participants.

The tournament’s overall winner, Paul Alston of John Cobb Consulting Limited, received the Icopal Trophy and also won himself a £150 American Golf voucher for winning the Duke’s course.

The Marquess course saw Gary Vaughan secure the top prize. Furthermore, £50 American Golf vouchers went to Mark Skelly of Owen Ellis Architects and Gian-Franco Cencelli from Fornacelli Developments for the longest drive award on both courses.

There was also a ‘Beat the Pro’ a competition, with the opportunity to win some Icopal branded Titleist golf balls. To participate, each person donated £10 to charity, resulting in £720 being raised for the Christie Charitable Fund.

This money will help support crucial cancer research and specialist patient care services of Manchester’s Christie Hospital.

Sales Director at Icopal, Simon Woods, said: “This event, which is now becoming an annual tradition, provides a great opportunity to bring our clients and team together outside of the working environment.

“Sharing a round of golf is a good chance to get to know people better and an ideal way to say thank you to a few of the people who have helped make the past year a success.

“It’s been a truly successful event and with demand increasing every time, next year’s will be even bigger. Although no one won the big prize this year I know people will be honing their game to try and take it next year.”

Director at John Cobb Consulting, Paul Alston, commented: “It’s been a brilliant day at one of the best courses in the UK – I have really enjoyed it. I’m delighted to have finished the day as the overall winner and I look forward to next year’s event.”
