Charcon has been given the contract to supply materials towards a new Cycle Superhighway between Leeds and Bradford, in a project costing £7.9 million.
Leeds City Council’s programme will see segregated cycle routes created on major roads through Leeds city centre, that will build on the exisitng network for leisure and to unlock ever-growing employment opportunities in the city.
Work, set to start in February 2018, will see 4,500 square metres of Charcon’s extensive range used.
The commercial hard landscaping division of Aggregate Industries’ products being used include Moordale Textured flag paving, Woburn Original block paving and its British Standard Kerb.
Moordale Textured flag paving offers consistency in colour and texture, incorporating Yorkstone and Limestone aggregates to enhance performance and durability, whilst proving ideal for developing large areas of warm solid colour.
Suiting Moordale Textured paving is Woburn Original block paving; stylish and subtle, a chamferless profile creates a smoother riding surface.
Charcon’s British Standard Kerb is designed to offer edge restraint in pedestrian vehicular application and meets British standards, as well as being a cost effective kerb for all applications.
Sector Marketing Manager for Charcon, Mike Davies, commented on his delight as he looks ahead to the project commencing.
“West Yorkshire already has some of the country’s leading infrastructure, and the Leeds Cycle Superhighway will add to that,” he said.
“We have a proven track record in cycleways and our range of cycleway segregation solutions is already proving successful in London, on the Cycle Superhighway 2, as well as Cambridge, Oxford, Bristol and Nottingham.”
Next summer is the expected completion date; once finished, the new routes will run along Wellington Street to City Square and from Queen Street to Westgage, as well running north-to-south along St Peter’s Street.
Mike concluded: “It was a real team effort in securing the contract. Our Ashington factory in Northumberland went above and beyond in ensuring that all samples were readily available and delivered to the agreed timescale.”
