Steel windows form part of award winning development

  • 7 Dec 2017

The Carlton Works development has recently been recognised with an award from the Sevenoaks Society for excellence in design and construction.

The building in Sevenoaks, Kent, consists of six one-bedroom apartments and a two-bedroom penthouse, having been altered many times since it was built in 1916. It has previously functioned as a theatre, cinema and factory space.

When the Crawley Building Company bought the building, the front facade needed to be rebuilt in brick while the side and rear elevations were rendered and a modern rooftop extension was added to form a penthouse.

Furthermore, the existing steel windows had to be removed and new openings were formed. Steel Window Association member Govette Windows has designed and manufactured 29 steel windows and doors for the development, led by Open Architecture.

The windows and doors are manufactured from W20 sections and hot dip galvanised and polyester powder coated in RAL 7021 matt black grey. All are double glazed with 16mm krypton filled units and low E external panes.

In addition, Govette created an internal glazed main door between the hallway and living area of the penthouse.
