Tackling industry regulations with Alcumus courses

Alcumus has released two new Association for Project Safety (APS) accredited courses, designed to offer businesses a better legal understanding and practical guidance on The Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations 2015.

The UK’s leading compliance and risk management business are keen to allay any confusion that may surround these CDM changes, as Technical Director HSE at Alcumus, Simon Jones, reflects upon.

“We are introducing two new APS approved courses, which, with the support and advice from our in-house construction experts, will ensure our clients are fully conversant with the requirements and appropriate control strategies,” he said.

Construction remains the most dangerous industry to work in, with statistics saying 80,000 workers suffer from work-related ill health each year in the country.

In order to better protect construction workers, Alcumus believes CDM 2015 should be applied to all construction projects, with goals to improve health, safety and welfare.

Coming into force in April 2015, CDM replaced the existing 2007 regulation. The CDM 2015 differed from the regulation of eight years previous; featuring organisations or contractors having to have more duties and liabilities, the creation of a principal designer role to manage a project’s health and safety instead of outsourcing and alterations to the criteria for notifying the Health and Safety Executive.

However, despite launching over two years ago, confusion still exists around the interpretation of the regulation, especially where certain roles and responsibilities lie.

Alcumus has been independently assessed and approved by APS to deliver CDM training, so will be looking to clear everything up.
