Somerset students design business smart space

  • 31 Jan 2018

Students at a school in North Somerset have helped to design a brand new Business Studies and Computing facility, assisted by the Dulux Smarter Spaces initiative.

A cohort of year 9s at Churchill Academy & Sixth Form played a big role in the £1.3m building’s interior design, with the end product being a contemporary, inspirational environment for learning.

Dulux partook the decoration process, from start to finish, creating an extra seven classrooms and three offices. Pupils enjoyed a bespoke colour training session, which featured information about the colour wheel, relationships between colours and how colour schemes come into existence.

Using the children’s knowledge of the school building and surroundings, Dulux Trade’s project lead Yusuf Alharrari and Colour Advisor Colin McDermid put schemes into action to bring the school’s identity to life.

Two colour schemes developed by the pupils were voted for, with the scheme labelled ‘bright and exciting’ being successful; classrooms were adorned with a colourful teaching wall to avert the pupils’ attention to the front of the room.

Once the project was completed, the school was lucky enough to receive a visit from Lewis, the famous Dulux dog!

Headteacher Chris Hildrew expressed his delight with the outcome, saying it was ‘spacious, modern and everything we had hoped for’.

Dulux works with schools nationwide to design learning spaces that inspire and meet the needs of the busy school environment. Dulux Smarter Spaces decoration and design packages are tailored to a school’s needs, offering services to suit every budget.
