Aggregate and Leicester Tigers continue to battle bullies

  • 14 Feb 2018

The positive launch of the ‘Give Bullying the Boot’ campaign last November has seen Aggregate Industries and Leicester Tigers continue their partnership to help beat bullying in Leicestershire.

The impact of cyber bullying is now the focus, with representatives from Leicester Tigers RFC visiting schools across the county, throughout February and March, to talk about the negative elements of technology and social media.

Research conducted by both organisations has shown 28% of Leicestershire school children say social media has added more pressure to look or act a certain way, for fear of being bullied.

On top of this, 22% have worries about being bullied online, with 24% having encountered negative comments on their social media platforms. The same study has shown 53% of school children in the region have suffered bullying of some description.

François Petry, CEO of Aggregate Industries, spoke about what he wants from this campaign.

“We hope this latest phase of our Give Bullying the Boot campaign will therefore provide some helpful guidance around cyber bullying, providing any pupils who may be affected with the tools needed to take action and speak up,” he said.

Chris Rose, head of brand at Leicester Tigers, expressed his delight at the positive response to the  campaign and said it was important for cyber-bullying to be looked at with the sessions over the Spring Term.

The ‘Give Bullying the Boot’ campaign is part of the two organisations’ Concrete Rugby initiative, which promotes a healthy lifestyle, team work and self-confidence in young people through the teaching of key rugby skills.
