Passenger lifts from Stannah for National Army Museum

  • 15 Feb 2018

Two Stannah passenger lifts have been installed as part of the recent multi-million pound refurbishment of Chelsea’s National Army Museum.

A fine example of Stannah’s core mantra of ‘Access for All’; they bring freedom of movement in public buildings for people with varying degrees of mobility, including wheelchair-users.

Linda Stranks, Head of Marketing & Communications at the National Army Museum commented on the installations.

“In our revamped, high-tech Museum, it’s essential that everyone can access the wealth of fascinating objects, surprising stories and interactive fun, and the Stannah passenger lifts help us to achieve this,” she said.

The museum, which houses five galleries honouring the last four centuries of British Army history, will see the passenger lifts play a crucial part in aiding year round access to exhibits and facilities on four floors.

Comprising a 26-person and 17-person lift operating in a single wall-mounted shaft, the pair was designed and built to hold up to the demands of escalating visitor traffic.

They feature 4-panel, centre-opening doors, designed for easy access and flush-mounted landing operation panels and indicators, for simple navigation.

3D door infrared sensors also feature, with state-of-the-art sensitive door edges detecting passengers or objects during door closing and the interiors are high specification.

Passengers can be further reassured by the inclusion of an automatic phone call system for emergencies, installed in accordance with the Health and Safety regulation changes of 1999. These lifts also make sure the premises’ owners comply with the Equality Act 2010.
