Membrane from Icopal essential for Welsh project

  • 16 Feb 2018

A three-storey apartment building under construction in the Welsh town of Flint features Icopal‘s Monarfloor Tranquilt acoustic membrane.

The product played an integral role in the structure gaining compliance with Part E of the Building Regulations.

Part of the ‘Gateway to Wales’ project, the Maes Helyg development is being constructed in order for the Pennaf Housing Group to have a total of 15 two-bed apartments, plus six single bedroom dwellings available for affordable rent.

Contractor Anwyl Construction had previous experience of the Tranquilt membrane, having used it in another social housing development, based in Wrexham.

They found it extremely suitable for tackling the issue of acoustic transmission and flanking sound through floor slabs.

The Design Manager for Anwyl Construction, Martin Gunn, said that he saw no point in using an alternative to the Tranquilt, having used it to good effect in projects previous.

In total, 1200 metres squared of Tranquilt has been installed by the screeding contractor, Merseyside based John Cothliff Ltd., working with the manufacturer’s application guidance in mind.

Monarfloor Tranquilt makes an acoustic isolation layer between a concrete subfloor and a floating screed and can be supplied in 20m x 1.5m rolls with adhesive and tape for jointing at wall junctions and around service pipes.
