Dealing with damp: Safeguard CPD style

  • 27 Feb 2018

Safeguard Europe has updated its CPD seminar programme on the two main, and often confused, causes of damp, providing both a broad and in-depth briefing on this troublesome entity for properties.

When tackling damp, identification is vitally important; the type and then, the cause. Though rising damp is often deemed the cause, there are in fact numerous potential types including condensation, rain penetration, and construction moisture and contaminating salts which attract moisture.

The first in Safeguard’s new RIBA-accredited CPD series, Dealing with Dampness, provides an general introduction to the problems of rising and penetrating damp.

This is sure to give architects, builders and specifiers the information required for them to distinguish between the two and determine sources, while outlining options on dealing with it.

The 40-minute seminar is delivered in the clients’ workplace, and covers technologies for dealing with damp, looking at why some diagnostic equipment, like certain damp meters, can cause confusion if used incorrectly.

For those seeking a deep understanding of the various damp types, the overview CPD is crammed full with focussed seminars on specific kinds.

The Dealing with Penetrating Damp seminar outlines four steps to deal with both the causes of penetrating damp and the factors which worsen the problem, with the CPD walking participants through all the issues and considers how to treat them.

Rising Damp: Causes and Treatment looks at everything from the physics of rising damp to the chemistry of damp proof courses (DPCs), providing a thorough briefing on the causes of rising damp, and the potential treatments available, including recent developments.
