CMS Window Systems has delivered window and curtain walling for the new Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Galleries (DCL&G), crowned Scotland’s best building in the 2017 RIAS Awards.
The Richard Murphy Architects designed project took an existing B-listed library, which was the world’s first Carnegie Library and in addition to this, the building features a new museum, exhibition galleries, local history Reading Room, new children’s library and a mezzanine café.
With stunning views over the landscaped garden to Dunfermline Abbey and the Heritage Quarter, it tasted success at last year’s Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland Awards.
CMS Window Systems was granted the fenestration contract by main contractor BAM Construction, with the aim of manufacturing and install a range of aluminium windows and curtain walling, finished in RAL 7024 graphite grey.
All windows utilise the Metal Technology 4-20 Hi+ system, which contains a thermal break to provide windows with supreme thermal properties.
The complementary curtain walling, which is capped and silicone pointed, was fabricated using the Metal Technology System 17 Latitude, giving consistency in visuals and performance.
The windows and curtain walling are glazed with sealed units, balancing thermal insulation with solar control to maintain an energy efficient, stable internal climate.
Stephen Anderson, Aluminium Contracts Director at CMS Window Systems, said this was a ‘superb project to be part of’, adding they were ‘delighted’ to have been part of the project team.
He added that they have worked extensively with Fife Council throughout the past ten years in social housing projects, educational buildings and plenty of other non-residential schemes, meaning it was pleasing to be appointed to work on this prestigious project that he hoped people across Fife and the whole country could be proud of.
Delta Membranes has recently worked on a project whereby the scope was to provide a waterproofing solution to a newly constructed lift pit for a four-storey residential block.
