Paddington Gardens Contract for FDS

  • 12 Apr 2018

Fire Design Solutions (FDS) is to supply smoke ventilation and corridor environmental systems to the new Paddington Gardens residential development in London.

The award-winning fire safety systems contractor will offer full consultation, design and installation services for the development, which fills a 3.8 acre site within London’s Paddington Waterside regeneration.

Upon completion, the four residential towers will comprise one, two, three and four bedroom apartments and penthouses, with views of the surrounding landscaped gardens and iconic London skyline.

This project is the latest in a series of collaborations between FDS and Ark M&E in recent times. FDS was engaged early on, providing consultancy on the design for the development’s fire safety features.

The contract includes the supply and installation of residential smoke ventilation and corridor environmental systems up to 21 levels in each block, plus the basement car park and loading bay smoke ventilation system.

During the design phase, FDS made recommendations to help optimise the layout of the building; this was done by planning the systems in the most efficient way, including combining the loading bay and car park ventilation systems.

Nick Waterfield from Fire Design Solutions said the company were ‘delighted’ to have been selected for this ambitious project in a particularly prestigious part of London.

“Working alongside the overall project team, our engineers will help to ensure the system complies with building regulations and that the safety of occupants has been maximised,” he said.

Tony Tatum, Operations Manager at ARK M&E, said that having worked with FDS before meant they knew its team of engineers could always provide thorough quotes and timescales, which removed any possibility of uncertainty and streamlining in the build process.

“This is especially important for residential builds such as this, where buyers are already registering interest in the property and we face a tight build programme,” he added.

Fire Design Solutions began installing the systems in January this year, with the Paddington Gardens project’s completion expected for the latter half of 2019.
