Glazing Vision has recently supplied its fixed Flushglaze rooflights as part of the transformation of 12 lock-up garages into an innovative split-house concept.
The newly built 5 bedroom residence is located in Leafy Tunbridge Wells, completed in 2016 by St Albans based Feneley Studio. The development posed a few challenges as numerous planning applications had failed previously on the grounds of over-development and loss of privacy to neighbours.
Consequently, Feneley proposed a split-house concept, which would reduce the building mass and would align with the scale of the Coach House next door with a close-boarded fence to offer privacy. The house is configured into three component parts; a family room linking two outer wings with bedrooms and bathrooms, each two-storey high, and a lounge area on the ground floor. Separating the two wings with the low-rise central ‘link’ prevents the building from dominating the landscape.
Ensuring the house was well lit was a key consideration for Feneley Studio, with large windows incorporated into the east-facing side of the house and an inverted bay window where the hallway steps down to the kitchen. For the West side of the house, where no windows were permitted, and for the narrow staircases, Glazing Vision’s fixed Flushglaze rooflights were specified, each made to bespoke sizes.
Glazing Vision manufactured three individual fixed Flushglaze rooflights for installation at this property: a 2.8m x 0.8m unit for the living room, which has two kerb and two wall abutment details, a 2.4m x 0.8m unit for the kitchen, and finally a 1.8m x 1.8m unit for the master bathroom.
The rooflights provide an abundance of natural daylight in the darker areas of the house, in addition to unhibited views to the sky and successfully compliment the clean, modern aesthetics of the house’s interior.
