Selectaglaze was recently chosen to help the repair and preservation of a Grade I listed building on Clapton Bridge in Stratford-upon-Avon.
The Old Toll House has been included in the top ten West Midland’s Historic England’s Register of Buildings at Risk in recent years, having been built around 200 years ago and disused since 1991.
Stratford Historic Buildings Trust recently raised funds to bring the building back to life as a visitor centre and office space whilst maintaining its historic features.
Historic building contractors Stone-Edge took on the refurbishment project, which included removing the original windows, mending them, and reinstalling them. However, the single glazed timber windows were still deemed inadequate for modern needs. Therefore, Selectaglaze was chosen by Stone-Edge to install a total of 8 units on the ground and first floor of the Old Toll House.
Care was taken to ensure that impact on the original gothic theme of the building was minimal, with the Selectaglaze Series 45 double side hung casement with matching gothic curved head barely noticeable from the outside.
Project organiser Chris Rice explains that he has already noticed a significant change in the acoustic insulation in the building and the building is also a lot warmer. He comments: “fitting secondary glazing into a Grade I Listed building with lots of different sized windows was a big challenge. We are delighted with the finished product in terms of insulation and sympathetic appearance.”
