Remembering colleague Karl with Aggregate’s cycle challenge

  • 18 May 2018

A 16-strong team from Aggregate Industries is tackling the 50 mile DougieMac Challenger Cycle Route on 20 May, in memory of colleague Karl Payne, who was the Midlands Regional Operations Manager for Readymix.

Dean Benton, Readymix Area Operations Manager at Aggregate Industries, spoke about the challenge for Karl, who was taking part in this bike ride and sadly lost his life before he could finish.

“This year, we want to complete the ride that he started in his memory to raise much needed funds for Douglas Macmillan Hospice, a specialist palliative care provider in North Staffordshire for adults, the majority of whom are affected by cancer,” he said.

The majority of the team from the leading player in the construction and infrastructure industries’ Readymix division are non-cyclists, so they are currently training extremely hard in order to complete the 50 mile course.

The gruelling cycle route passes up into the Peaks, climbing to the village of Flash – recorded as the highest village in Britain at 1,518 feet above sea level.

The team will then travel through Macclesfield, before returning to Port Vale FC.
