As the UK marks Pride Month 2018 throughout June, Aggregate Industries has said, for future success of the construction industry, it must adopt a far more progressive and open-minded approach to attracting a diverse talent pool.
Every year, in June, the LGBT community organises various events worldwide to promote equal rights and to increase society’s awareness of diversity.
Jo Hankinson, HR Business Partner at Aggregate Industries, commented: “We know that employees perform better when they can be themselves in an inclusive and truly equal environment, which is accepting of all.
“This is why we strive to achieve this and have placed a real emphasis on our diversity and inclusion strategy. Pride Month is a great opportunity to reflect on the value of being diverse as not only an organisation but also as an industry, so we can all fulfil our potential.”
Jo added that it is essential progress is made to guarantee the ever widening construction skills gap is being bridged.
“After all, equality and diversity isn’t just about a ‘tick in the box’ – it has been proven that having a more inclusive workforce can help achieve a higher return on equity and better financial performance by strengthening an organisation’s intellectual capacity,” she said.
Aggregate Industries is continuing to invest in its diversity and inclusion programme in order to ensure a more balanced workforce – with a particular focus on getting more women involved in the company.
As part of a wider diversity and inclusion strategy, Aggregate is committed to allow people to be themselves and feel supported, regardless of their sexual orientation.
