PEFC UK will be a partner at Solid Wood Solutions, a one-day conference and exhibition which will feature pioneering projects through informative case studies, presented by those who have conceived and developed buildings attracting global attention.
Speakers at the conference will include Arup, Buro Happold, Ramboll, PLP Architecture, KLH UK, Wiehag, Waugh Thistleton, TRADA and many more, taking place on 5 July at The Oculus, University of Warwick.
Solid Wood Solutions will also offer a fantastic chance to obtain insight and network with those shaping the future of the engineered timber industry – especially engineered wood products such as cross laminated timber (CLT).
Nearly 60% of CLT in the UK is PEFC-certified – and Glulam.
The move comprises part of PEFC’s continuing ‘Designing the Future with Sustainable Timber’ global campaign, which aims to raise awareness of, and demand for, PEFC-certified timber within the global construction sector and demonstrate responsible forest management, plus why Chain of Custody certification is so important to timber destined for construction use.
Architects, designers and those specifying building materials for construction projects are ever more so turning to timber to deliver energy efficient and sustainable buildings.
This has led to more public and private sector procurement policies seeking evidence of certified timber and specifying PEFC-certified materials, enabling contractors to provide such assurances.
Many landmark schemes in the UK have used PEFC-certified solid wood, including the developments at the University of East Anglia’s Blackdale Campus, the new Abbey Wood Crossrail station and the award-winning Dalston Lane project located in the London Borough of Hackney – which at nearly 34m tall is one the world’s largest load bearing cross laminated timber (CLT) structures.
