The Run2 Academy was rewarded last Friday at the Construction Excellence North East Awards for its commitment to creating opportunities for young people in the North East of England.
The Run2 Academy is a working group of key people from Northumbrian Water, Esh-MWH Joint Venture, MMB, Interserve, Turner & Townsend and Wood. The 2018 Construction Excellence North East Awards last week, saw the company win the People Development category.
With an increasingly ageing workforce and a lack of trained new entrants within the water industry, the Run2 Academy is working hard to promote the industry and develop a new generation of talent.
The Shared Summer Placement programme allows undergraduate students the opportunity to undertake a 12-week shared summer placement, where they’ll rotate around the six leading North East companies. Each student will be taught invaluable skills and experience working on real-life construction projects. The programme so far is proving successful, with five out of seven students from the 2017 programme having gained further employment or engagement.
This September will also see the Run2 Academy pilot its first Shared Year In Industry programme.
Supporting students at key stages of their education helps them to develop their skills and better understand the career options available to them in the utility sector.
