As part of REHAU’s commitment to the environment and endeavours to turn the tide on plastic waste, the company has sponsored a beach clean at Lligwy, North Wales.
REHAU provided gloves and high visibility jackets, along with a team of volunteers from its Amlwch production facility to help with the clean-up and survey, organised by Rachel Hodge in collaboration with the Marine Conservation Society.
Beachwatch is the Society’s national beach cleaning and litter surveying programme, with events held nationwide to protect Britain’s wildlife from waste and litter in the seas.
REHAU Amlwch’s Rachel Hodge, Martyn Hodge and Laura Evans collected five bags full of rubbish during the Beachwatch event in Lligwy, held on Sunday 8 July.
Removing this waste means it cannot pose a threat to marine species, who can accidentally eat it or become tangled in litter left on the coastline.
Daniel Jones from REHAU commented: “Discarded plastic waste is a huge issue at the moment, and one which is rightly getting a lot of air time.
“In our seas, it’s harmful to marine wildlife and we must all do our bit to ensure that litter is recycled or disposed of responsibly.”
While REHAU’s Plastic Edgeband & Roller Shutter Door products do not end up in the sea, the company believe it is important they are recycled where possible to lower the amount of plastic heading to landfill.
It has long championed the recycling of its own waste through chipping and milling the plastic back into powder, which allows it to be reused in its extrusion processes.
