Charcon Hard Landscaping, a division of Aggregate Industries, was recently chosen to complete the development of a central campus square at the University of Leicester.
Charcon was appointed to provide a robust solution with visual appeal for the transformation of the Fielding Johnson car park. The creation of an aesthetically pleasing but highly durable area will allow for clear access routes to surrounding buildings whilst offering a clear space for student and staff events to take place.
The hard landscaping company supplied 1,500m2 of Andover Textured Block Paving in Mid Grey, Silver Grey, Pink Granite and Heather Porphyry for the main central square. A combination of silver grey concrete aggregate paving was selected for the square to complement the architectural styling of the rest of the campus, with deeper colours also chosen to add depth to the square.
The Andover Textured Block Paving was also chosen for its durability, with its unique formulation of Cornish aggregates promising to survive the heavy footfall expected.
Mark Bodman, Director at Barry Chinn Associates, said: “We specifically chose Charcon as opposed to other key manufacturers of hard landscaping as we felt the quality of product successfully met our precise brief. The Andover Textured Block Paving lent itself extremely well to the project as it seamlessly accompanied the surrounding campus aesthetic.”
Clinton Young, National Specification Manager at Charcon, said: “This project demonstrated our capabilities perfectly and we’re delighted that we have been able to deliver a full solution to the University of Leicester and we hope that the transformed space can be used to its full potential.”
