  • 15 Oct 2018

VELUX is rounding off this year’s ‘Design a Brighter Future’ breakfast event series at The Lighthouse in Glasgow on Wednesday 7 November.

This series has travelled nationwide, advocating daylight and ventilation, and their potential to revolutionise the way people work, learn and recover in the built environment.

A host of internationally acclaimed speakers will present their research and practical insights at the Glasgow event.

They include:

  • Dr. Richard Hobday – Independent researcher and author on the impacts of sunlight and daylight on human health. Richard will be discussing Myopia and daylight in schools.
  • Laura Phillips – Associate Director at Arup will discuss how the use of light has evolved within the design world.
  • Mark Ellson – Director at Holmes Miller Architects will be presenting Holmes Miller’s approach to early years’ design.

The event commences at 8am, with introductions, networking and breakfast, with speakers starting at 8:45 am, a Q&A at 9:30am, before the event finishes at 10:00am.

‘Design a Brighter Future’ is putting evidence and practical application first. During this event, visitors will be provided with the latest research and evidence-based design practices.

It is an unmissable event for forward-thinking architects and construction professionals in the education, commercial and healthcare sectors.

Jia Afsar, Atkins, described it as an ‘enriching CPD’, that is ‘superbly organised’ and in a ‘great location’.

“Design a Brighter Future emphasised the principles and philosophy of ‘good design’ with the users’ experience at the core of it,” he added.

Aine Glackin, Associate at White Ink Architects, added: “The research cited at ‘Design a Brighter Future’ allows me, as an architect, to communicate the importance of maximising daylight as much as possible to clients and contractors. We have the power to revolutionise the health and well-being of future generations.”

Furthermore, attendance at any VELUX ‘Design a Brighter Future’ event will count towards CPD requirements.

The Glasgow event is supported by Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), The International WELL Building Institute (WELL) and Glasgow Institute of Architects (GIA).
