It’s a wrap for Bostik at Brecknock Museum

  • 31 Oct 2018

Bostik’s self-adhesive thermal acoustic wrap, W110, has provided acoustic insulation on the plastic rainwater and soil pipe system at the newly refurbished Brecknock Museum in Brecon, Wales.

Following a successful Heritage Lottery Fund bid, a major programme of restoration and refurbishment was undertaken to revitalise the Brecknock Museum and Art Gallery.

Housed in an impressive Grade II listed building, the project has included the creation of a new public library, café, shop, sculpture garden and car park.

F P Hurley & Sons Ltd, the main contractor for the HVAC work on the museum project, selected Bostik W110, because it is up to 20% quicker to install than traditional acoustic insulation products – a valuable timesaver during the restoration.

Supplied on a compact and lightweight roll, Bostik W110 forms an instant bond around pipework, without the need for the extra banding or clips associated with the more traditional products on the market.

At just 4mm thick, it’s easy to handle and cut, and can be used in tight applications with less room taken up on site.

James Macdonald, thermal insulation manager at F P Hurley, commented: “We have experience of using Bostik W110 on other projects and have been really impressed with the results.

“W110 is often specified because of its excellent acoustic properties, as it has a weighted sound reduction index of up to 30dB.

“As the museum is a naturally quiet environment and some of the pipework runs through public areas, W110’s sound properties were of paramount importance for the specification.

“Before the installation, we tested a sample on site and all parties involved were happy with the product. We find W110 quick and easy to fit, and it provides a much neater finish than other similar products that we’ve used previously.”

Consisting of a thermal acoustic layer laminated between two layers of high-performance pressure sensitive butyl and finished with an aluminium face, Bostik W110 is Class 0 fire rated and acoustic tested to ISO 10140-2.
