Aggregate Industries helps to get Rachel home for Christmas

  • 29 Nov 2018

Aggregate Industries has supported a charity campaign aiming to return a Leicestershire woman to her home from hospital before Christmas.

Three tonnes of 6mm stone mastic asphalt was donated from Aggregate’s Bardon Hill site, in order to create a smooth driveway for mother-of-two Rachel.

As a result of a bleed on the brain and, subsequently, a two-year period in Loughborough’s brain injury recovery unit, she requires the use of a wheelchair.

The donation is part of a wider campaign by the White Horse Wishing Well charity, which is bringing together an array of local businesses to give Rachel’s house the adaptations needed for her on-going rehabilitation – these include downstairs wetroom facilities and a specially modified car.

Mark Field, Production Manager at Aggregate Industries, commented: “We are proud to support such a worthy cause, and we hope that our contribution helps make the transition back home for Rachel a little easier.

“It’s always good to see local businesses come together to help those in need, and the turnout for this project has been fantastic.”

David Keatley-Lill, Chairman of the White Horse Wishing Well, added: “The project to adapt Rachel’s home was a perfect example of what can be achieved when a community comes together.

“To have Aggregate Industries come on board and lay a new, wheelchair-friendly driveway was the icing on the cake. We can’t thank them enough for getting involved and helping change a family’s life.”

The White Horse Wishing Well has been raising funds to help local people for more than four years. Run entirely by volunteers, all donations made go directly towards its projects.

Each year, it runs a ‘12 gifts of Christmas’ campaign, where 12 worthy causes benefit from the fund throughout the festive season.
