Abloy scoops coveted Government Security Award in the USA

  • 13 May 2019

Abloy UK has announced its sister company, Abloy USA, has been awarded a prestigious Platinum ‘Govie’ Award for PROTEC2 CLIQÒ Connect, the highest-level award available in the ‘Access Control Devices/Peripherals – Wireless’ category.

Launched in 2009, the ‘Govies’ honour outstanding government security products in a variety of categories, awarded by Security Today, an integrated product and technology magazine for the North American security market.

Abloy USA received the award at ISC West 2019 International Security Conference & Exposition in Las Vegas.

An independent panel of judges from the security industry were responsible for selecting products to receive Platinum and Gold awards, using criteria such as features, innovation, user-friendliness, interoperability, quality, design, market opportunity, impact in the security industry, technical advances, and scalability.

The PROTEC2 CLIQÒ access control system was chosen for the Platinum award as it combines the best parts of electronic and mechanical locking.

Based on a rotating disc cylinder, the patented PROTEC2 ensures mechanical locking, while the electronic CLIQÒ technology enables the flexible management of keys, access rights and the access register.

What’s more, the CLIQÒ Connect smartphone application makes it possible to update the user’s keys with new access right anytime, anywhere.

The app is easy to simple to both new and already existing PROTEC2 CLIQÒ systems. It is ideal for geographically spread out organisations, and the optional personal PIN code authentication added to the mobile key makes it even more secure.

CLIQÒ technology has been implemented across a significant number of CNI sites, not just in the UK, but globally too. These include Electricity North West Limited, which serves around 5 million people via 57,000 km of overhead lines and underground cables, and more than 34,000 transformers.

CLIQÒ was installed as a solution to control access at its sites, which are spread across urban and remote rural locations.

In the USA, a large utility company in the Midwest also secured its 4,000-plus transmission locations using CLIQÒ, in line with new standards that required physical protection of critical cyber assets.

The CLIQÒ locking system is established globally as the ideal access control and key management solution to protect Critical Infrastructure, with clients including including:

 – Stadtwerke Speyer, Germany
 – South Staffordshire Water, UK
 – Helsingin Energia, Finland
 – Eskilstuna Energy and Environment, Sweden
 – Industrielle Werke, Switzerland

The Govie award is the latest in a long line of accolades for CLIQÒ, with Abloy having previously receiving the following:

 – Merlion Awards 2015 – Golden Winner, Access Control category
 – Garuda Awards 2012
 – CTSS Awards 2012
 – IFSEC Awards 2011
 – Merlion Awards 2011

Aaron Yule, MD of Abloy UK, commented: “In the UK, CLIQÒ is already established as a leading access control solution which used in a wide range of sectors to protect critical assets, and this award acknowledges the strengths of CLIQÒ as a modern, industry-leading access control solution to protect national infrastructure.”

Jorma Issakainen, Vice President, International Sales, Abloy Oy, added: “The award is a recognition for our hard and persistent work in developing modern, industry-leading access control solutions together with the ASSA ABLOY Group.”
