Accessible toilets in educational buildings white paper published

  • 21 Oct 2014

The document explores the legal side to installing appropriate toilet facilities in educational buildings and provides advice to specifiers on best practice.

’Considerations & Specifications of Accessible Toilet Facilities’ is available from Clos-o-Mat

57% of schools do not have disabled toilet facilities

Although 60% of statemented children attend mainstream school and nearly 6% of higher educational students have a disability, some 57% of schools surveyed for the Bog Standard Campaign did not have any disabled toilet facilities.

Aside from the Building Regulations Approved Document M, the new Department for Education guideline published this year to replace the existing DFE Building Bulletins for primary and secondary schools contains information on legal requirements and ‘good practice.’

Legislation and guidance

The white paper focuses on relevant legislation and guidance and can be found alongside additional data, including documents on hygiene rooms for schools, CAD 2D and 3D drawings and videos.

The ‘Considerations & Specifications of Accessible Toilet Facilities,’ white paper can be downloaded directly from the Clos-o-Mat website.
