Secured by Design scheme allows for easy access for disabled people

The properties, which will be managed by local housing association, Aspire Housing, are situated on the site of a former public house which had been demolished after being deemed derelict and unsafe for further use.

Designed by architect, Ellis Hillman, each house adheres to the Secured by Design scheme and is adaptable for disabled people, with ramps being incorporated and stair lifts being fitted to enable an easy access.

Waste management strategies and energy efficient products incorporated

Following the Code for Sustainable Homes throughout construction, Novus implemented robust waste management strategies and installed low energy lighting, insulation and other energy efficient product to ensure the properties were sustainable.

Light fittings were built in at appropriate heights and specialist flooring systems allowed for the easy installation of the lifts and ramps.

The company laid foundations, constructed the properties and carried out electrical, plumbing, roofing and plastering work alongside kitchen and bathroom fittings and painting and decorating work.

Affordable housing for those who can’t afford to buy or rent

Novus adhered to the Considerate Constructors Scheme throughout the process of the project to ensure that neighbours and tenants were not disrupted by the noise and building work undertaken.

The properties, situated on Thurston Way in Berryhill, will provide affordable housing for people who can’t afford to buy or rent from a private landlord.
