Aggregate Industries adds colour to landmark Devonshire Retail Park

  • 7 Oct 2019

Aggregate Industries has recently supplied its pioneering green, blue and buff coloured asphalts to Devonshire Retail Park, as part of a major expansion of the Torbay area.

The recently opened Devonshire Retail Park sits on the site of a former electronics factory in the seaside town of Paignton and includes prominent retail outlets and five modern retail warehouses.

Aggregate Industries was approached by Devon Contractors and Roadform Civil Engineering to supply asphalt for the surfacing of the customer car park – providing spaces for 339 cars, including 20 disabled spaces.

The brief emphasised the need for customer convenience and ease, and looked to create clearly distinguishable disabled bays in blue and electric vehicle bays in green, as well as buff coloured entrance roads.

Therefore, Aggregate Industries’ Express Asphalt division supplied its innovative SuperColour range, a collection of distinctly coloured high-performance asphalts, which can be tailored to produce a bespoke solution in line with a project’s unique specification.

In total, Aggregate provided 420 tonnes of SuperColour Ultra surface course in buff, green and blue, preceded by 1,200 tonnes of standard asphalt and 210 tonnes of aggregates.

Katie McKeown, Business Manager – Express Asphalt at Aggregate Industries, comments on the project: “As one of the region’s most prominent development schemes, Devonshire Retail Park naturally requires a modern car park, complete with clearly marked disabled and charging bays for the rising number of electric vehicles now on the roads. With a selection of high-performance asphalt blends at our disposal, including different colours and performance properties, we’re incredibly proud that our SuperColour range proved to be the ideal solution in meeting the unique requirements of this project.”

Thanks to Aggregate, the retail park now boasts a striking car park where the disabled and electric vehicle bays are easy to spot, while the entrance roads provide a contemporary finish in keeping with the natural surroundings.
