Aggregate Industries provides the base for Aberdeen FC development

  • 18 Dec 2019

Aggregate Industries has supplied Aberdeen Football Club’s state-of-the-art training facilities and academy with its Levenseat ProPitch™ range of specialist sands and rootzone, for the construction of three new training pitches.

The training facilities, known as Cormack Park, were opened in October this year by Aberdeen legend Sir Alex Ferguson, as part of the wider Kingsford development.

This 25 hectare site will incorporate both Cormack Park and a stadium, which will provide enhanced match-day and non match-day experiences.

These will support the ambitions of the Club and its fans, further the award-winning work done in the local community by the AFC Community Trust, and provide wider economic and social benefits to the city and region.

To help achieve these ambitions, Aggregate was chosen by Pitch Consultant Bill Gillespie of Professional Sportsturf Design Ltd and leading sports turf contractors Greentech Sportsturf Ltd to supply specialist materials for the facilities.

This was due to its market leading reputation for supplying specialist products of unrivalled quality and consistency and the large volumes the project required in a relatively tight delivery window.

During a 12 week period, 9,000 tonnes of Levenseat ProPitch 25TM sand and 4,500 tonnes of Levenseat ProPitch Rootzone were supplied to Cormack Park.

Adam Hogg, Territory Sales Manager at Aggregate Industries, commented: “Being chosen as the supplier of choice for another high profile project really does validate our reputation for delivering precisely what is required and maintaining a consistently high level of quality.

“This gives customers and consultants the confidence that the ProPitch range will deliver the performance level they expect.

“To produce and deliver such a large amount of specialist sand and rootzone over a 12 week period was a logistical challenge in itself, but thanks to early customer engagement during the logistical stage of the project design and by closely working with Greentech Sportsturf Ltd, the Operations Team at Levenseat Quarry and Bulmans Bulk and Haulage, we managed to achieve it.

“The project was supplied on schedule, without any disruption to our day-to-day operations and business.”

Hugh Murray, MD at Greentech, commented: “We have worked with Aberdeen Football Club for a number of years now and it has been a privilege to work closely on this project with their team, Bill Gilespie and our sub contractors.

“Cormack Park is a vital part of the Kingsford development, and Aggregate Industries has played a significant part in the supply of quality materials for the state-of-the-art surfaces both for training, and for future stars in the academy to develop their skills on.”

Bill Gillespie, of Professional Sportsturf Design Ltd, said: “The largest project of its kind in the last decade demanded the best, which is why we chose the Levenseat ProPitch range.

“The level of consistency and quality in the product and therefore the performance it delivers is second to none; something that will be enjoyed by all at Aberdeen FC for the years to come.”
