Ahmarra manufactures over 200 fire doors for world leading medical research facility

  • 13 May 2021

Over 200 severe-duty fire doors from Ahmarra Door Solutions feature in the Pears Building in London.

The UCL Institute for Immunity and Transplantation is a world-leading medical research centre at The Pears Building. It will advance the understanding of conditions like cancer and diabetes.

With design by Hopkins Architects and construction under main contractor, Willmott Dixon, the building’s seven-storey structure includes two levels of patient accommodation. This will enable people undergoing clinical trials to rest and recover there.

Therefore, sound reduction was a factor of the doorsets’ performance – each door has an acoustic rating of up to 35RwdB.

Sub-contracted by Willmott Dixon, Avi Contracts chose Ahmarra to manufacture the doors, with the two working on a variety of successful projects together in the past. Amongst these are Wellington Health Centre and the Royal Veterinary College.

The centre features a range of non fire-rated, FD30 and FD60 doorsets. The pre-hung doorsets were finished in Formica® Fog Grey (F7961b) and Formica® Storm Grey (F7912) laminate, as well as American White Oak crown cut wood veneer facings. The project also includes some pocket sliding doors. All doors come with factory-fitted, fully-compatible, satin stainless steel ironmongery.
