Alumasc Facades recently played a vital part in the development of new Bridgend town centre apartments by providing an energy efficient finish with its BBA approved Silkolitt Lite system.
Alumasc Facades assisted the multi-coloured, medium-rise facade by supplying 1000m2 of the Silkolitt Lite system, which comprises the Silkolitt+ silicone render with the Alumasc Lite (grey EPS insulation board). A small quantity of Silkolitt Solo silicone render was also used. This particular system is the company’s most thermally efficient insulation board, resulting in annual savings for residents through reduced energy bills. The Silkolitt Lite system is BBA-approved (ref. 00/3766PS3) to certify a robust and durable product.
The new residential apartments create a stunning, modern visual addition to the Rhiw Centre carpark which Mike Petersen, the development’s project manager, claimed was “outdated and in poor condition”. The development was to take place as a Vibrant and Viable Places (VVP) project, with £9 million funding provided by the Welsh Government, Coastal Housing Group and Bridgend County Borough Council.
The development, now named Rhiw Gateway, was officially opened on January 11th 2018 after the segmented project was complete. The first phase began with an all-new multi storey carpark, started in January 2016. Upon completion the residents and visitors of Bridgend saw seven levels, a modern ticketless payment system, disabled access and 242 parking bays. Following this, in the summer of 2017, 28 new apartments were erected. These apartments were aimed at the town’s workers or workers who require close transport links in order to commute.
