ASSA ABLOY UK Specification has produced a RIBA-accredited seminar on the realities of working in a BIM environment.
Hosted at the Royal Institute of British Architects, the seminar was well-received by more than 100 architects, contractors and project managers who attended from nationwide.
The seminar went over a number of topics, including the practicalities of BIM specification, the impact in terms of time and cost on the specification process, and the effective approaches to a more value rich BIM experience.
Panellists included key architects and senior project managers from the industry, who discussed respective experiences with BIM modelling, taking questions from the floor.
Eric Spooner, ASSA ABLOY BIM Manager was a speaker at the event. He explained how BIM could streamline a large construction project.
He used the Banner University Medical Centre as a case study for showcasing the simplicity of information sharing via Openings Studio, which allowed the design team to update 1,600 door objects in the Revit model and door schedule in a mere 10 minutes, with substantial savings on time and costs.
Feedback from the delegates was positive, with Nigel Wright, Director of WRIGHT-CLASS Solutions Ltd, referring to the event as a ‘good balance of discussion and case study examples, pertinent to the fast-moving BIM and big data environment’.
He added the challenges of compliance, BIM level 2 standards and future development were of particular interest.
