Chester’s Sandy Lane Aqua Park and Play Area has become the latest venue to benefit from a Changing Places assisted accessible toilet.

Based on the banks of the River Dee, Sandy Lane Aqua Park and Play Area is one of England’s few outdoor water parks.

Cheshire West and Chester Council has made a significant investment in improving the Park’s public toilets. It has recently opened a Changing Places assisted accessible toilet to help guests who need the help of a carer to fulfil their personal hygiene needs.

Assisted accessible toilet facilities

Designed to provide access to appropriate facilities away from home, Changing Places toilets are larger than conventional wheelchair-accessible toilets.

The Sandy Lane Changing Places was supplied by Clos-o-Mat, and fitted by Novus Solutions. In addition to the standard height adjustable changing bench and hoist, the washroom features a Palma Vita wash and dry toilet, which operates via a touch-sensitive hand switch.

The Palma Vita incorporates douching and drying, which eliminates the need for wiping and improves dignity and hygiene for all concerned.

The new toilet facilities are open during the Park’s opening times. Accessed via a RADAR key, the facilities are kept clean by a dedicated on-site attendant.
