The new Jorge Chávez Airport in Peru is one of the most pioneering airport projects ever undertaken in South America. Its expansive infrastructure presented a need for efficient and consistent management of high-volume rainwater, which has been met successfully with the installation of Gatic UltraSlot from Alumasc Water Management Solutions (AWMS).
Covering an enormous 210,000 square metres in Peru’s capital city, Lima, the new Jorge Chávez Airport has been designed as a cornerstone for connectivity in South America. The state-of-the-art passenger terminal is being hailed not only as an airport, but as an important hub attracting essential new services to the city. Operation is due to start in early 2025 with further expansion continuing throughout the year. Once complete, it will have the capacity to serve 40 million passengers every year. The project is being delivered by infrastructure construction specialist Sacyr, on behalf of Lima Airport Partners (LAP).
Gatic UltraSlot was specified, and certified for effectiveness, by Spanish engineering services company Cemosa, for installation in operational areas, including airside and aircraft parking zones. UltraSlot not only offered the high rainwater drainage capabilities necessary for the Peruvian location, but it is also highly durable in areas of heavy and slow-moving traffic – essential for uninterrupted operation in a large-scale airport environment.
UltraSlot is designed for use in external concrete areas subject to F900 loading, by ensuring sufficient depth of concrete over the main body of the system to withstand ultra heavy-duty loads. It also presents minimal maintenance costs and has no moving or removable parts, which ensures long-lasting performance, positioning Gatic’s market-leading system as the preferred solution across airports worldwide.
From the outset, Gatic’s technical teams worked closely with the airport’s project managers to provide specialised, tailored technical support, allowing for the complete fulfilment of the project’s scope.
– EN 1433: European standard for drainage channels in vehicular and pedestrian areas, classifying loads from A15 to F900
– ISO 9001: Recognised standard for product quality improvement and manufacturing process quality
UltraSlot units are available from 100 to 600mm wide; the largest unit having a storage capacity of 405 l/m. The range offers these additional benefits:
– Quick installation times
– Maximum intake
– Impact resistance
– Tamper resistance
– Reduced maintenance costs
The range can be installed in areas likely to experience extreme temperatures, and when installed in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations, should perform for the lifetime of the site.
A comprehensive range of grates and covers is available to suit every conceivable system design, supplied with locking bolts for additional safety and security. A ‘treadsafe’ option is also available, which makes the channels safe to cross when used in areas subject to high foot traffic.
The AWMS ‘Concept to Completion’ process is underpinned by a solid company infrastructure which offers the following:
– UK-based manufacturing facilities and foundry
