A stunning £10 million pool complex at Cornwall’s iconic Headland Hotel has been fitted with Wade stainless steel linear drainage from Alumasc Water Management Solutions (AWMS).
The imposing Grade 2 listed hotel commands clifftop views overlooking Newquay’s Fistral Beach, and after first opening its doors to guests in 1900, it was requisitioned as a Royal Air Force hospital during WWII and has since become a popular filming location.
Over the decades, work and improvements to the hotel’s facilities have been ongoing; 40 unique holiday cottages have been added, as well as a spa and most recently, the new Aqua Club.
Wade Stainless Steel Hidden Linear Slot Channel was specified by Mark Duston, from Lilly Lewarne Architects. The discreet channel features a slim 6mm drainage slot making it ideal for barefoot areas. In this case, it was fabricated by Wade specifically for the Headland project, in 1.5mm polished grade 316 stainless steel and is BS EN 1433 compliant.
Mark Duston explains: “Wade was approached early in the project when the pool design was still being firmed up. The ideas we were working with required floor channels to be formed into complex curves around the perimeter of the space – and we needed a supplier we could trust.
“We were pleased that such difficult shapes could be fabricated exactly as we expected. The finished product looked great, giving the clean, discreet appearance we wanted.”
Richard Palmer, Director of the Headland Hotel, is always keen to use high quality products for all the work required on the 120-year-old building. He worked closely with JE Contractors and Lilly Lewarne to achieve the best possible results.
He comments: “It’s important that the best products are always used in the work we do to the hotel, especially when it comes to water management. If the drains ever had to come out, the time and cost would be far more than that of simply using the absolute best products to begin with.”
Mark Duston concludes: “We have worked with Wade before so knew the quality of their products and technical assistance that would be available to us; it was an easy selection to make.”
Wade Stainless Steel Hidden Linear Slot Channels are available with either a level inert or in-built falls, minimum depth of channel is 40mm to a maximum of 110mm. The base of the channel can either be flat or V-shaped, to aid with self-cleaning.
